Ross ‘The Hustler’ Simmons emerged victorious in the inaugural Lydford Foxes pool tournament on Wednesday evening.
The club is busy preparing for its third season in the Adrenalin Devon Junior & Minor League, which is especially significant as some teams will be playing home games away from the village for the first time. Five teams have entered the league, with only the U10s and U12s remaining in Lydford.
The U13s and U14s will be playing in Brentor, while the U15s will play in Lewdown. But the club is determined to maintain a close-knit community, which is why a pool table has been bought for the Foxes.
“We’re looking forward to spreading our wings in the local area,” said club secretary Hannah Braithwaite-Smith, “but we don’t want to lose the sense of being a family club. Keeping the family in AFC (A Family Club) is essential. The pool table is a chance for players and parents of all ages to get together.”
Sixteen people took part in the tournament, with players and parents enjoying a spirited evening of pool. The tournament was won by Ross, who was unavailable for comment as he’s been on a roof ever since potting the black to end a tense final against Gavin.
We’re sure he’d say something about it being a game of two halves, Clive.
There will be another Lydford Foxes pool tournament in September, with Ross returning to defend his crown.
